Biography:

Caterina Barbieri is an Italian composer currently based in Milan. Barbieri holds a Master's degree in classical guitar and a Bachelor's degree in electroacoustic composition from the Conservatory of Bologna, Italy, alongside a Bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy of Bologna with a thesis in Ethnomusicology about Hindustani music and minimalism.

Her first original score was for John and the Hole, directed by Pascual Sisto (one of Variety's 2021 Top 10 Directors to Watch) and written by Nicolás Giacobone (Academy Award Winner - Best Original Screenplay with Birdman). John and the Hole was part of the official selection for the 2020 Cannes Film Festival and had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

Following her first release ‘Vertical’ and her full-length debut album ‘Patterns of Consciousness’ (2017), her work has been extensively presented in festivals and venues across the world such as Sonar, Barbican Centre, Philharmonie de Paris, Venice Biennale.

Her work explores the psycho-physical effects of repetition and pattern-based operations in music, by investigating the polyphonic and polyrhythmic potential of sequencers to draw complex geometries in time and space.
